The Summer/Fall 2008 catalog of courses for Monroe #1 BOCES Staff Development is now available.  The BOCES ITS have many offerings under the Educational Technology heading including several courses on Blogging, Podcasting, Wikis, Using Digital Media in the Classroom, Community Projects with Technology, and the summer Technology, Learning and Technology Conference.  

Take your class out of this world by using the Global Positioning System (GPS).  You will learn the basics of using GPS, experience a classroom outdoors and learn ways you can implement GPS outside your classroom. 

GPS and GIS are two powerful applications in the real world of science. Come and see how you might be able to incorporate GPS into your curriculum. The goal of this class is to use and generate ideas on how to use GPS to frame learning experiences that will create hands-on learning experieneces for students in a real-world context.

SMART Boards seem to be all the craze.  However, how do you change the simple teacher-centered use of a SMART Board into an interactive activity for your classroom?  We will look at different ways to use the SMART Board and create activities that will enable your students to direct the learning in the classroom. 

Pre-Requisites: Interactive Whiteboard (SMART or Promethian)

Exploring is the name of the game. Immerse yourself in the world of gaming just like your students do. Sense the feeling of being engrossed in a virtual world, trying to tackle real world problems.

helps them organize their thoughts in a multitude of ways. You can tap
into the different intellingences that your students possess, from
visual-spatial intelligence to logical-mathematical intelligence. You
will learn a new way to help your students show their thoughts and what
they have learned using this software.

The interactivity provided by the SMART Board engages students and helps them to process information while allowing you, the teacher, to assess their learning. During this course we will explore and practice using the wide array of options provided by this tool to enhance the educational setting.
