Monroe #1 BOCES Professional Development Center, located at 11 & 15 Linden Park, Rochester, NY, offers cooperative staff development workshops, for educational professionals throughout the region, for teaching strategies and techniques, how to use new technology, and on the new statewide initiatives in curriculum and assessment. Our workshops for K-12 staff and administration, promote best practices, innovative instructional strategies, technology integration and interdisciplinary teaching.

We are now offering a series of one hour webinars that overview a variety of online tools.  This series focuses on social media (better known as Web2.0) tools that are easily accessible to you and your students.  Each webinar is online, one hour in length and all you need is a computer and Internet connection.  A weblink will be emailed to you at least 24 hours prior to the webinar.

Find summer reading materialLast week at our ITS Town Meeting we asked that you bring a book or list of books to add to a Summer Reading list for educators.  Well, we've got an Educator Library started on the wiki that you might find helpful when you visit Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble.  If you are wondering why the list resides on the wiki, it is because the list will be added to in the future by our community members.  If you haven't started an account on the Model Schools Wiki, here's you chance to contribute.  It's easy.

GPS: Bringing the Classroom Outdoors

Take your class out of this world by using the Global Positioning System (GPS).  You will learn the basics of using GPS, experience a classroom outdoors and learn ways you can implement GPS outside your classroom.

GPS and GIS are two powerful applications in the real world of science. Come and see how you might be able to incorporate GPS into your curriculum. The goal of this class is to use and generate ideas on how to use GPS to frame learning experiences that will create hands-on learning experieneces for students in a real-world context.
