Creativity in Schools
Submitted by briancsmith on Fri, 10/16/2009 - 07:03As we move to using more and more technology for learning, productivity seems to take the lead. The following TED videos are centered around creativity. The first, which you may or may not have seen, is from Sir Ken Robinson talks about how schools might be killing creativity. Sir Ken also happens to be one of a great line up of keynote speakers at the annual NYSCATE Conference held here in Rochester next month.
How might we bring more creative uses of technology for learning in our school communities? How does our view of individuals (students and colleagues) effect how we teach and work?

Submitted by briancsmith on Tue, 10/06/2009 - 15:26With all the hubbub around interactive whiteboards, classroom response systems, wikis & blogs and more, the word interactive has been defined by the tool more so than the experience or nature of the learning. When I think of interactive I think of participating in an activity at some heightened level of engagement. This engagement may included a one tool or a variety of tools.
What is your vision of interactive learning? And how does it affect time and space for learning?
Student Technology Survey 2.0 - NEW!
Submitted by briancsmith on Tue, 09/08/2009 - 13:45
A short survey has been posted for student input on the development of a New York State Educational Technology Plan. The Student Technology Survey 2.0 is for students at all levels and stages of learning. What kinds of technology do you use both in and out of school? What kinds of technology do you want to use, and how? This survey is an updated version of a student technology survey released by the State Education Department in June 2009.
The deadline for completing the survey is September 30, 2009.
To learn more about the statewide EdTech Plan visit http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/edtech/ where you can download the Draft Plan and learn more about upcoming Community Forums on the state and future of Educational Technology in New York State.
